Low Self Esteem

Psychotherapy for low self-esteem involves collaboratively exploring past relationships, traumas, and personal narratives to understand your self-worth and the origins of negative views. These negative views impact your behaviour, cause self-sabotage and limit your potential.

How It Helps

Employing various therapeutic approaches, we will challenge and reframe your negative self-appraisal, gradually quieting that internal voice of criticism. You’ll become adept at reshaping negative thought patterns, fostering a more realistic and compassionate self-view. This process frees you from the fear of falling short and not being good enough, allowing the development of a positive and resilient sense of self. By setting achievable goals and celebrating successes, you’ll navigate life with increased confidence and self-worth.

Psychotherapy recognises the lasting impact of trauma and works to help you come to terms with distressing past experiences that left you feeling unsafe, powerless, or vulnerable, affecting your self-esteem. This healing journey untangles the intricate threads of trauma, developing insight and understanding and rebuilding your sense of safety, trust, and resilience. This process allows you to reshape your self-worth and cultivate self-compassion, serving as a powerful catalyst for change. Collaborative goal setting within therapy addresses specific aspects of low self-esteem, using achievable goals as a valuable tool to challenge negative beliefs, improve self-care, or pursue career aspirations.

My ultimate goal is for our work to empower you, fostering not only the recognition of your inherent worth but also the embrace of a more confident and resilient sense of self in your journey toward self-discovery and personal growth.

What I do

About Me

As an established Integrative Psychotherapist with years of experience, I’ve witnessed transformative change in many individuals. I have undertaken extensive and high-quality training, and conducted research on eating disorders and the psychodynamics of unconscious processes, contributing valuable insights. Having worked across various settings and age groups and taught trainee Counsellors as a Lecturer in Mental Health and Psychological Therapies at an academic institute, I draw from this experience to provide personalized Psychotherapy tailored to your unique needs.

Initially, my intention is simple: for you to feel genuinely heard, accepted, cared for, and supported. So many navigate life without this and finding a therapist who truly understood me was a game changer, altering my life and paving the way for enriching and fulfilling growth and change.

Unlocking Transformation

The Impact of My Therapeutic Approach

Psychotherapy offers a multifaceted approach to personal growth and well-being. It promotes self-discovery, enhancing insight into thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, fostering increased self-awareness and a deeper understanding of underlying issues. Through therapeutic interventions, individuals acquire coping mechanisms, communication skills, and effective strategies to navigate challenges, equipping them with the self-awareness, compassion, and tools to manage stress, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. The therapeutic relationship provides a safe and supportive space for individuals to come to terms with trauma, express their feelings without judgment, offering emotional support that alleviates isolation and promotes connection. Additionally, psychotherapy facilitates behavioural change by identifying and modifying maladaptive behaviours, empowering individuals to work towards achieving their goals and improving overall well-being.

How do you address specific issues contributing to low self-esteem, such as past traumas or negative self-perceptions?

Drawing on extensive professional experience and high-quality training, I use various techniques, including exploring past experiences, challenging negative thought patterns, and fostering self-compassion to address specific issues contributing to your low self-esteem.

How can Psychotherapy improve my self-esteem?

Psychotherapy helps by providing a supportive space to explore the roots of your low self-esteem, challenge negative thought patterns, and develop healthier perspectives, ultimately fostering positive self-worth.

Can therapy help with building confidence and assertiveness?

Yes, absolutely. Psychotherapy often incorporates techniques to enhance assertiveness, boost confidence, and develop effective communication skills, which are crucial elements in improving self-esteem and progressing your life as you want to.

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on your needs and the severity of your low self-esteem, and we can discuss this at the end of the assessment period and review it throughout your therapy.

How often will we meet?

I provide sessions on a weekly basis as this frequency and consistency of meeting has been shown to be effective in creating long-lasting change.

What happens during the first session?

We will begin to understand you, your life, key relationships, and major life events at a pace that feels comfortable for you. It’s a chance for me to begin to understand your needs and for you to experience therapy with me and decide if it feels comfortable for you.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
