This step emphasises practicing your new positive core beliefs until they become an integral part of who you are and how you see yourself, so it feels natural to see yourself in this new way. By aligning your core beliefs with your authentic self, your thoughts and behaviours will change to align with these new positive beliefs. You’ll respond authentically to others and life’s challenges. This fosters a sense of safety, calmness, and self-trust, empowering you to pursue your goals confidently.

Action Step

Over the next week or two, actively do the following on a regular basis.

  1. Notice when your negative core belief is activated.
  2. What is the underlying fear that is causing this belief to reappear?
  3. Respond to this negative core belief by compassionately and kindly acknowledging the presence of this old core belief and how you feel. It’s really important that you don’t get cross or criticise yourself. It’s also important that you don’t try and push these feelings and thoughts away. Giving yourself permission to feel as you feel can be reassuring and empower change.
  4. Open up a dialogue with yourself. “I know that my old negative core belief of “I’m not good enough” is active right now and I feel afraid/small/anxious. And it’s okay. This is the old me and it’s natural that this will reappear at times and now I can be in the current me, because I know that I am good enough.”
  5. Notice how you feel after you have been honest with yourself and responded kindly and compassionately while stepping into this new core belief.
  6. Journal about this experience to help you deepen your learning. You could also share this with someone who you trust will be understanding and open minded, as this can deepen your learning and create opportunities to strengthen this positive core belief through positive reinforcement.
